The server that we are using for testing is not that "stable" and we might perform changes on the fly to it, so that could be a reason for the "unavailable" status.
From our experience ping checks in the client sometimes behave weridly and report incorrect information, not always, but we have seen some questionable results, so I would not trust the ping and use it more or less just to see if the server is available to you.
